I am someone who is passionate about those with Eating Disorders being able to access the services and care that is right for them in the safest manner. Following requests from training events, I began to offer supervision specifically to support Therapists with such clients.

Why might I access additional case specific Supervision?

As you have navigated to this page of my website, the chances are that you are currently working with a client/s who are living with an Eating Disorder and you are considering accessing some additional support, supervision and / or training and resources in this area to aid you in your work.

My own research has shown that working with Eating Disorders often leaves Counsellors / Therapists feeling overwhelmed and unsafe. As these are the mental health conditions with the highest mortality rates and with initial counselling training containing little or no education on these conditions, it is perhaps unsurprising that you might be feeling that way.

Accessing case specific supervision with someone who keeps up to date in the field, and who is confident in managing the risks inherent in working with this client group, can allow you to feel safer in your practice.

Why should I choose to work with you?

I have been working in the field of Eating Disorders in some way, shape or form for around 15 years, and spend much of my own therapy practice working directly with clients with eating disorder-type difficulties. I read, research, and write on the topic – keeping up to date with the ever-evolving understanding of these illnesses.

I believe that what is far more important than accessing a specialist service is the counselling client’s autonomy and choice over accessing a therapy they believe in, and which works for them. However, it is vital that any therapist working with such clients understands how to safeguard in relation to the unique needs of this client group. Furthermore, therapists working in this area must be sufficiently well-educated to be able to avoid the common pitfalls often reported as being harmful by clients with Eating Disorders.

I will therefore work to offer case specific supervisees information, guidance, and support towards meeting these aims.

I’m interested in this service – now what?

If you think you want to access some case specific Supervision with myself, I first suggest you read more about my approach by exploring both this website and my blog Mental Health Bites.

If you then feel that I will compliment your practice, please feel free to get in touch.

I now offer this ‘Eating Disorder focused/case specific Supervision’ on either a regular or more ad-hoc/one off basis. This service is available face-to-face at my clinic, as well as online or on the telephone. I can usually offer a one-off or ad hoc session within two weeks.
